Denny Wambugu

  • My name is Dennis Wambugu Wandina
  • I’m known as Denny
  • I’m from Kenya
  • I’m graduating from Maseno University in December 2024 with a degree in International Relations and Diplomacy with IT. I have enrolled for my Masters Degree.
  • This will be my first year on staff at Falling Creek
  • I’ll be teaching climbing wall and board games/chess.
  • Early bird or night owl? Early bird
  • If I had my own late night talk show, the first guest I would invite on would be the Director of Falling Creek Camp. The reason for this choice is to highlight the incredible experience that the camp offers to young boys. I believe it’s important to showcase the people and places that make a positive impact on children’s lives, and having the camp director as my first guest would allow us to delve into the unique aspects of the camp’s programs, values, and the growth it fosters in its campers.
  • My favorite holiday is Jamhuri Day, which is celebrated on December 12th in Kenya. I hold a deep appreciation for this holiday because it marks Kenya’s independence from British colonial rule. It’s a day when we come together as a nation to celebrate our sovereignty and reflect on the progress we’ve made as an independent country. The sense of patriotism and unity that Jamhuri Day fosters is truly inspiring. It’s a reminder of our history and the bright future that lies ahead, making it a special and meaningful holiday to me
  • If I could live anywhere for a year, I think a place like Kyoto, Japan, could be a fascinating experience. Kyoto offers a rich blend of traditional and modern culture, beautiful landscapes, historic temples, and a unique way of life. It would be an opportunity to immerse oneself in Japanese traditions, enjoy the changing seasons, and explore the city’s rich history and architecture.
  • My favorite way to get in some exercise? Going for a jog or run in a nearby park.
  • Fun Fact: as an avid outdoor enthusiast, and I’ve completed a hiking expedition in the Mt Kenya which is at an altitufe of 5 199M above sea level , covering over 100KM. This experience taught me the value of perseverance, self-reliance, and a deep appreciation for nature. It’s also a testament to my passion for outdoor adventures and my ability to embrace challenges head-on, which I believe aligns well with the spirit of Falling Creek Camp and its emphasis on outdoor education and personal growth
  • This summer at Falling Creek Camp, I’m most excited about learning and improving my outdoor skills, particularly in activities like hiking, camping, and wilderness survival. I believe that mastering these skills will not only boost my self-confidence but also help me develop a deeper connection with nature and a sense of self-reliance. Additionally, I’m eager to learn more about teamwork and leadership in an outdoor setting, which I believe are essential life skills that will serve me well in the future.
