Sad News from Camp Greystone
January 30, 2010
I am writing today with sad news of the passing of James F. Miller, III. "JimDaddy", as he is known to all, was the founder of Falling Creek Camp.
JimDaddy and Libby, are the senior Directors at Camp Greystone, which has been owned and directed by four generations of Libby's family since 1920.
Libby and JimDaddy Miller, Mrs. Virginia Hanna
He and Libby started Falling Creek Camp in the summer of 1969. JimDaddy always said that, in his opinion, the spiritual and moral values of a good summer camp are more important than the program.
Forty-two years later, Falling Creek follows the same mission and ideals originally modeled by the Millers when they envisioned starting a boys camp.
I was honored to have the opportunity recently to sit down with JimDaddy and listen to him tell the stories of the founding of Falling Creek Camp.
JimDaddy was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and leader who mentored and touched the hearts of many people. Our prayers and thoughts are with Libby and the Miller family.

I have no words to describe my sadness at the loss of Jim Miller. In 1969, he hired me, my brother and three fraternity brothers to be among the first counselors at Falling Creek Camp. We had the honor of working for Jim as part of the initial group of counselors and campers who created this wonderful camp. This is meant in no way to diminish the enormous, continuing contributions of staff and campers at Falling Creek over the ensuing decades, but if there had been no Jim Miller, there would have been no Falling Creek Camp. Jim Miller’s eternal legacy is the joy, peace and brotherhood found by thousands of young men over the years at Falling Creek, and I and my sons will be forever in his debt. May God bless Jim Miller and Falling Creek Camp.

In the summer of 1968 I was a camper at Camp Greystone. Since my parents were friends of the Millers, when they came to visit me, Jim took us on a wild and crazy jeep ride over the property that would become Falling Creek. His usual positive and jolly self was even more pumped up over the prospects of this fine opportunity to build his own camp. My brothers went to Falling Creek, and now my son does. What a fabulous community has been built by Jim, and now continued and nurtured by Yates and Marisa.
