New Basketball Goals
April 30, 2008
Every camper who plays basketball at Falling Creek for years to come is going to enjoy playing on our two new Goalrilla goals.
The goals are NBA regulation size goals and are fully adjustable from ten feet, for the older boys, and seven feet, for our youngest campers.
Basketball is going to be an exciting activity this summer with the new goals and the great group of counselors coming to teach the activity. To see profiles of our staff for 2008, check the staff section of the Who's Coming Page.

Steve Longenecker has a new Peregrine falcon in his care named Busa. She is a beautiful bird with a lot of personality.
Busa was born in captivity and is very familiar with people. She worked as a trained hunting falcon before going to breeders in South Dakota.
Steve is working with Busa to train her for camp. She will be a wonderful addition to Falling Creek this summer!

The Falling Creek Blacksmith Guild had its first meeting at the camp blacksmithing shop Saturday, February 23rd. The guild was created by Falling Creek's very own George Matthews with the purpose of teaching the craft and art of blacksmithing to others. George and the guild were featured in an article in the Hendersonville Times-News. William "Scotty" Scott, our head riflery instructor at camp, is the guild president. Melissa Ringler, who also teaches blacksmithing at Falling Creek, is secretary and treasurer of the guild.

Jim Goodrum Returns To FCC as Staffing Director
December 06, 2007
We are thrilled to announce that Jim Goodrum will be returning to Falling Creek in January as Staffing Director. His cousin Tom Goodrum introduced Jim to camp in 1979 and he was a camper for seven years and CIT for two years. Jim is a graduate of Mercer University in Macon, GA and while he attended, worked at FCC as a Catawba Tribe cabin counselor and activity leader. In the summer of 1993, Jim moved from the swim docks to begin his tenure as Program Director. In 1994, Jim joined the full-time camp staff as Assistant Director / Program Director until 2002. He returned home to Georgia in 2002 to work at Mercer University as Assistant Director of Admissions and Recreational Sports and Wellness. At Mercer, Jim met his wife Kristi and they have been married for two years.

Most recently, Jim has been working for Fickling & Company selling residential real estate. Marisa and I are excited Jim is returning to share from his 23 years of Falling Creek experience. Jim's passion for Falling Creek and it's mission, combined with his knowledge of camp operations, sets the stage for his primary focus with FCC's staff and alumni development.
Merry Christmas!

Phil Hoffmann Joins "Mountain Sports School" and Nathan Newquist Moves To Program Director
November 28, 2007
Falling Creek Camp has been an integral part of many aspects of my life. I was a camper, counselor and director totaling 11 amazing years at FCC. My wife Jessica and I have decided to embrace a chance to experience a great adventure in our lives as we embark on our relocation to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. I have accepted a position in the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort-Mountain Sports School in a leadership role to assist people in enjoying all that the mountains have to offer during all four seasons. As a life long climber, this gives me an opportunity to expand my experience in an alpine environment in yet another beautiful part of this country. Jessica will continue to be employed by Mountain Khakis in the Northern Rockies Division of the Dealer Services Department working from the Jackson Hole office. I have been privileged to work with such an outstanding group of people and will keep Falling Creek in my thoughts and spirit as I embark on my new journey. - Phil Hoffmann
Marisa and I are thrilled Phil and Jessica have such an amazing chance to seek a dream opportunity in the western Rockies area of the US. We wish them both the very best in their new endeavors in Jackson Hole.
Nathan Newquist
We are excited to announce that after seven summers on staff at Falling Creek, Nathan Newquist will move to Program Director, joining our year-round team starting February 4, 2008. Nathan has experience in many areas of camp: Cherokee and Catawba cabin counselor, head of waterfront, sailing instructor, and tribal leader as well as involvement with leading church service, morning watch, music, and campfires. Nathan was also honored with the prestigious Green and Gold book dedication in 2005 for demonstrating the true spirit of Falling Creek. He graduated from Texas Christian University in 2005 with a degree in International Communication and has been working for the Fort Worth School District in the Grants and Development office. As Program Director, Nathan is looking forward to a terrific summer in 2008! - Yates Pharr
I look forward to continuing the values and traditions of Falling Creek. It is those things - the friendships and community - that give FCC a special place in the hearts and memories of so many boys and men who have been fortunate enough to spend time there. - Nathan Newquist
