THE COUNTDOWN IS ON!! The Nantahala Freestyle World Championships are just days away. Activities begin at 6 pm Monday, September 2 with the opening ceremonies in Bryson City and continue through the week with daily freestyle competition on the Nantahala “2013 Wave”. The championships conclude on Sunday, September 8 with the finals and awards ceremonies.

As we mentioned in a post earlier, this event is nothing new for Jez and LiLi, who are thrilled to not only be representing Australia again in the World Chapionships, but they get to do it on the nearby Nantahala River, a regular stop for our Falling Creek Camp Paddling trips. There will be several FCC staff and campers attending with their families to cheer Jez and LiLi on.

They have been training here recently and were part of the Nantahala World Kayak Pro-Am, a gathering of professional athletes and amature kayakers raising money for the First Descents Charity at the Nantahala river NC. Enjoy the video that Jez made to commemorate the fun. People like Jez, LiLi, Claire O’Hara, Eric Jackson, Wayner, and many more paddling role models were leaders and mentors to these amatures in this awesome event.
