Chuck & Jean and Donnie & Kim recently threw a welcome party at camp for Yates & Marisa, Frank & Elizabeth, and David & Cindy. Close to one hundred people attended the afternoon gathering. Former staff, current staff, area merchants, community leaders, other camp directors, friends, and extended families all enjoyed a pig pickin’ at the Falling Creek Dining Hall.
Jim Miller, who founded Falling Creek Camp in 1969, was on hand to give the blessing and added several remarks pertaining to Falling Creek’s history including the significant role Donnie has played over the years.
Both Chuck and Yates addressed the entire group amidst smiles and applause.
Yates reminisced that his first summer at Falling Creek was, “a life-changing experience.”
He further revealed that the philosophy of Falling Creek Camp would remain the same when he stated, “A camp experience is something you can’t get anywhere else. It allows you to not just build the skills like paddling and tennis, but you build life skills – how to get along with each other and how to be independent and make decisions for yourself.”
The afternoon was capped off by Chuck giving Yates & Marisa’s family a series of Falling Creek items and Yates & Marisa presented the new directors emeritus with a pair of Adirondack chairs strategically placed overlooking the upper lake.
