Last Saturday local camps organized the “Future Legends of Barbecue” competition at Camp Greystone. The competition was followed by a Blue Jean Ball benefiting local camps, and specifically the Henderson County Young Leaders Program.
Our team for the barbecue competition was made up of Ben Lea, a former FCC Director and alumnus, Simon Wilson, Goody, Annie Pharr, and Lucy Pharr. The team started cooking ribs and pork barbecue at 6 a.m. and “smoked” the competition!

The team won first place in the Theme Category for their theme of “Swiney-Cue”. (Notice they are all dressed like hospital staff). Congratulations team!
The entire day’s events were chaired by Marisa Pharr and Starr Teel, who is an FCC alumnus and owns local barbecue smokehouse Hubba Hubba. Marisa and Starr worked for many weeks organizing and putting together all of the details that made the competition and ball a smashing success.
The events were well attended by families from all over the area, who all had a great time eating, playing and dancing. The funds raised will benefit local children through the Henderson County Young Leaders Program, giving them the opportunity to attend several camps in Western North Carolina.
