Darien, CT welcomes Falling Creek Camp

FCCDarien10-30-13

Yates made his way from Dallas in a northeastern direction to Darien, CT tonight where Matt and Kristin Edwards hosted the Falling Creek Camp movies and reunion at their beautiful early 1900’s home. Their son Hayden will be returning to main camp in 2014 for his 7th summer and his younger sisters both followed their mother’s footsteps by going to Camp Merrie-Woode in Saphire, NC.

There was a good mix tonight of returning veteran campers and new families who came to learn more about camp. There were also some FCC dads who brought their sons tonight and Falling Creek Alumni as well. Many thanks to the Edwards for opening their home to the CT and NY area families.

Falling Creek is in Big D

FCCDallas10-29-13

Yates traveled north from Houston to Dallas, TX on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 where Dotti and Nupe Singhal hosted the Falling Creek Camp movies at their lovely home. Jackson and James Singhal were a big help in making sure the camp movie played correctly and they were joined by a number of veteran campers in assisting Yates with answering questions from new families who wanted to learn more about FCC.

Rick and Emily Broad brought their 3 boys who all attend main camp. They both met at Falling Creek in the 80’s when they were on the counselor staff. Rick went on to serve as an Assistant Director for a number of years in the early 90’s at Falling Creek before going back to school. He and Emily have their own physical therapy practice near Richardson, TX.

Many thanks to the Singhal’s for hosting such an awesome Falling Creek movie and reunion event!

Falling Creek Camp Blasts into the Space City

FCC Houston 10-28-13 At the Riser's Home

Yates quickly made his way from Coral Gables/Miami in south Florida over to the other side of the Gulf of Mexico to Houston, TX, where Winifred and Carleton Riser hosted the Falling Creek Camp movies and reunion at their beautiful home. Their sons, Robert, Mac, and Carleton were excellent hosts and welcomed the boys as they arrived with their families. They had several games going on in both the front and back yards prior to enjoying eating pizza and chocolate chip cookies.

It was a reunion for several Falling Creek alumni tonight. Carleton Riser, Laffy Herring, Seth Barrett, and Mac McKinnie (who’s son made it, but he was at his other son’s games) all went to Falling Creek with Yates in the 70’s and 80’s. They joined us in the group photo, as well as dads who went the Father/Son Weekend with their son(s).

Yates and several families noticed that the Riser’s have sketched out very neatly and posted the Falling Creek Code on their fridge to serve as a reminder that their family to continue to embrace the values.

Falling Creek Camp visits Coral Gables

FCC Coral Gables 10-27-13

Yates traveled south to Coral Gables, Fl where Bill and Allison Holly hosted the Falling Creek Camp movies and Reunion for the greater Miami area at their beautiful home fronting the famous Biltmore Hotel golf course. Their sons Hayes, Anders, and Jay did a fine job helping their parents to prepare and then host the event.

It was similar to a Saturday evening at camp “supper on the land sports field” feel tonight with the boys taking their pizza and/or chicken out on the fringe of the golf course to eat and enjoy each others company before we talked about camp and showed the new camp movie.

Everyone enjoyed getting their 2014 exclusive trunk stickers for participating tonight. Many thanks to the Holly’s for an outstanding event!

Falling Creek Camp Gym Update

The Douglas Fir Framing Going into place on the Falling Creek Camp Gym 10-25-13The Douglas Fir Framing Going into place on the Falling Creek Camp Gym 10-25-13

The large Douglas Fir timbers are now being carefully put into place with a massive crane. These large pieces serve as a beefy frame work for the roof over the gym floor. Additionally, you will notice the 12-14" diameter locust logs that will support the shed roof over the 12 foot wrap-around porch and new performance stage at one end of the building. For the veteran campers and families, the new Gym is located on the site of “Copeland’s court”, adjacent to the upper parking lot, and it looks over the upper lake from behind the high wire/rope swing towers.

The lower level is being prepped for the installation of an artificial turf field (40’ wide x 96’ long) with an 8 foot wrap-around wall to allow for fun activities such as “indoor” soccer, lacrosse, ultimate, flag football, dodge ball, etc.

The project is on schedule to be completed and ready for action in the 2014 summer.
