There's Nothing Like Camp Friends

We received a fun note recently from Doug Hall. His son Tristan, a 5-year camper from Bradenton, FL, picked up camp buddies Will and Robert on their way through Georgia to paddle the Nantahala and Chattooga Rivers over a recent October weekend.

Will and Robert are returning to Main camp for their 8th and 7th summers respectively at camp. All have become good friends at Falling Creek and all have become avid whitewater paddlers. It’s great to see them grow their friendships doing what they have come to enjoy.

Doug’s note to us mentions:
“Yates, great days on the Nanty and Chattooga with Tristan, Robert and Will on Sat and Sun. Perfect fall weather and the boys handled the Falls and Bull Sluice no problem. They are much better than the adults! Kudos to Jez and your paddling staff. I hope all is well at camp.”

Tristan and Robert plan to go on the Falling Creek HUCK Costa Rica Paddling Expedition in late July, 2013 after Main camp, and Will is going on the FCC HUCK Southeast Paddling Expedition at the same time. We send them all a big “thumbs up” and congratulations on their huge progress as advanced whitewater boaters!

Coral Gables Camp Movies and Reunion

Falling Creek Camp Movies and Reunion hosted by the Holly Family in Coral Gables, FL on 10-28-12Falling Creek Camp Movies and Reunion hosted by the Holly Family in Coral Gables, FL on 10-28-12

Yates traveled far south to Coral Gables, FL, where Bill and Allison Holly hosted the Miami area Falling Creek Camp Movies and Reunion at their beautiful home. Two of their three sons, Anders and Hayes, will be attending FCC this summer, and Jay, their youngest, can’t wait to be old enough to join them!

Bill is also a veteran of the Father/Son Weekend camp at Falling Creek. In fact, there are a whole host of dads who have been, or are planning to attend the the Father/Son Weekend with their sons.

Tom Murphy, whose two sons will be returning to FCC for their 5th and 6th summers in 2013, is one of the veterans who came with his family tonight. Tom and his boys are keeping it a tradition and returning to Father/Son weekend this coming May as well.

Jim Cusack also attended Father/Son Weekend with his son Wesley, and Wesley will also be going to back to FCC this summer.

It was a perfect evening with the cool weather having just stretched down into Florida. The boys played games out on the Biltmore Golf Course edge in the Holly’s back yard before eating some pizza and watching the new FCC movie. They were all excited to receive their exclusive 2013 trunk stickers that are only distributed at these movie/reunion events.

Many thanks to the Holly’s for hosting such a wonderful evening!

Richmond Reunion and Camp Movie Show

Falling Creek Camp Movies and Reunion hosted by the Jordan Family in Richmond, VA on 10-24-12Falling Creek Camp Movies and Reunion hosted by the Jordan Family in Richmond, VA on 10-24-12

Yates made his way a bit south to Nancy and Jay Jordan’s Home in Richmond, VA, where they hosted the Falling Creek Camp Movies and Reunion. Jay and his brother George are originally from Atlanta and were campers with Yates and his brother Stephen at FCC. Their son John will be going to FCC for his first time this summer.

Donny Wade, whose son Mac is returning for his 5th summer at FCC in 2013, joined us in the photo as he and Mac have attended the Father/Son Weekend together. Yates appreciated the veteran campers helping him to answer questions and to pass out the exclusive 2013 trunk sticker, which you can only get if you attend a movie show.

It’s always fun to welcome all of the families to these shows and to watch the new Falling Creek movie. Many thanks to the Jordans for hosting again at their beautiful home!
