NOLA Movies and Reunion

Yates made his way down to New Orleans, LA where Maria and Noel Johnson hosted the Falling Creek Camp Movies and Reunion. Their son Lawrence, and his sister Emily, were a big help in welcoming the many families who attended. Lawrence is going back to Main Camp this coming summer for his 5th year.

There were many boys who are current campers that came to tell the new families why they go to Falling Creek Camp. Miller Engelhardt and Andy Wisdom both went to FCC as campers, and are enjoying the opportunity for their sons to have the same experience. Justin Schmidt, whose son Calder is returning for his 6th summer in 2012, was a counselor in the late 80’s and on the waterfront staff with Marisa and Goody then.

A big thank you to Maria and Noel, and Noel’s mother, Marion Johnson, who hosted the big event at her home.

Charleston Movies On The Beach

Yates drove over to Charleston, SC, on Thursday, October 6, where Jill and Billy Ford hosted the Falling Creek Camp Movies and Reunion at their beautiful home on Sullivan’s Island. Their sons, Hutson and Coker, are returning to the June session at FCC this coming summer. Their daughter Drayton will return to Camp Greystone for her 6th summer. It was a wonderful setting for the event as their home sits right on the water and the temperature was perfect.

We were excited to reconnect with several Falling Creek Alumni. Ed Kercher, who went to Falling Creek in the 70’s, was excited to be at the show, and has signed up to take his young son Jack to the Father/Son Weekend this coming May. Ms. Lucy deMovellan, who lives in the area now, used to serve as the FCC host in Lexington, KY. Her sons went FCC with Yates in the 70’s and 80’s. Her grandson Antonio now goes to Falling Creek. Long time camper and staff member Foster Freeman came by to show his support and love for FCC as well. He lives in the area and is working with the Subway Restaurant development team. Foster gets his “camp fix” for the year by serving on the Father/Son weekend staff when he can.

The boys played games in the big grass lawn while the parents enjoyed each others company, giving the new families a great chance to learn from the current camp folks and alumni just why they love Falling Creek.

After Billy cooked the boys hot dogs on the grill, and the parents enjoyed some delicious food that the Ford’s prepared, we all gathered outside in the grass to watch the movie on a screen and then talk about what this amazing camp experience offers.

We thank the Ford’s for their support of Falling Creek!

Super Savannah

Falling Creek Camp Movies and Reunion at the Cowart's home in Savannah, GA on 10-5-11Falling Creek Camp Movies and Reunion at the Cowart's home in Savannah, GA on 10-5-11

Yates made his way to the Georgia coast where Lolly and Emerson Cowart hosted the Falling Creek Camp Movies and Reunion at their home. Their son Duke will be returning to June camp for his 6th summer! It was beautiful weather and the boys had fun eating pizza ans playing outside before we showed the camp movie.

It’s extra special when dads who were campers at Falling Creek get the chance to bring their son to the gathering and show them why they love Falling Creek. Walker Pendarvis, a camper in 1982, had good memories to share, and even brought two friends and their families with him. Walker is very excited that not only will his son, Rhodes attend the June 3-week camp, but he will reconnect with camp and join his son at the Father/Son Weekend in May.

Blair Hines, a long time camper from Raleigh, made me feel old, as he was in my cabin and spent a good bit of his FCC camping career down at the canoe docks and on trips with me. Blair’s younger brother Rob was also in my my cabin and his parents still keep up with us. Blair is an oral surgeon in the Navy and his family is based in the Beaufort, SC area. He brought his son, Thomas, as they plan to attend the Father/Son Weekend in May. This is what we mean when we say camp creates lifelong friendships.

We thank the Cowart’s for again hosting the Camp Movies and Reunion at their beautiful home.

Yates always enjoys the opportunity to speak about all the wonderful things a camp experience provides, however, its equally great to hear the returning campers tell all of the new families present why they like FCC.

Falling Creek sends a big thank you to Stephanie and Todd, and Stephanie’s parents, for hosting such a wonderful movie show and reunion.
