Phil Hoffmann Joins "Mountain Sports School" and Nathan Newquist Moves To Program Director

Falling Creek Camp has been an integral part of many aspects of my life. I was a camper, counselor and director totaling 11 amazing years at FCC. My wife Jessica and I have decided to embrace a chance to experience a great adventure in our lives as we embark on our relocation to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. I have accepted a position in the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort-Mountain Sports School in a leadership role to assist people in enjoying all that the mountains have to offer during all four seasons. As a life long climber, this gives me an opportunity to expand my experience in an alpine environment in yet another beautiful part of this country. Jessica will continue to be employed by Mountain Khakis in the Northern Rockies Division of the Dealer Services Department working from the Jackson Hole office. I have been privileged to work with such an outstanding group of people and will keep Falling Creek in my thoughts and spirit as I embark on my new journey.

Marisa and I are thrilled Phil and Jessica have such an amazing chance to seek a dream opportunity in the western Rockies area of the US. We wish them both the very best in their new endeavors in Jackson Hole.

Nathan Newquist

We are excited to announce that after seven summers on staff at Falling Creek, Nathan Newquist will move to Program Director, joining our year-round team starting February 4, 2008. Nathan has experience in many areas of camp: Cherokee and Catawba cabin counselor, head of waterfront, sailing instructor, and tribal leader as well as involvement with leading church service, morning watch, music, and campfires. Nathan was also honored with the prestigious Green and Gold book dedication in 2005 for demonstrating the true spirit of Falling Creek. He graduated from Texas Christian University in 2005 with a degree in International Communication and has been working for the Fort Worth School District in the Grants and Development office. As Program Director, Nathan is looking forward to a terrific summer in 2008!

I look forward to continuing the values and traditions of Falling Creek. It is those things – the friendships and community – that give FCC a special place in the hearts and memories of so many boys and men who have been fortunate enough to spend time there.

Fall Colors

The massive oaks and maples that provide us with so much shade during the summer are slowly changing into their winter coats.

Fall at Falling Creek

Before the winter coat arrives, the mountain transitions into a sea of yellows, reds, and oranges. As each day becomes a little cooler, the colors become more vibrate until they finally take flight and land peacefully on ones shoulder, car, or the ground.

If you have never experienced an eastern hardwood forest in the fall, I would strongly encourage you to swing by camp and the surrounding area for a truly remarkable event.

But hurry they will be gone soon!

During this wonderful time of the year several Falling Creekers gathered in the Green River Gorge near Saluda North Carolina to witness one of the most remarkable sporting events of the year. The 12th Annual Green River Narrows Race takes place over the first weekend of November. The race is a mile long and drops 525 vertical feet. To put that in to perspective, the Nantahala River drops 300 vertical feet in 8 miles.
