Falling Creek visits Atlanta!

Marisa and the girls and I traveled to Atlanta, GA on Sunday, October 29 where the Millings hosted two camp “movie” shows at 4:30pm and 6:30pm in their home. It was an outstanding opportunity to meet new families and catch up with alumni and current campers.

Alumni who attended included Clay Milling, who was a Camper and Counselor at Falling Creek in the 70’s and 80’s. In fact, Clay and I were on the Canoeing staff together. Fred Conklin was a Camper and C.I.T. with me in the 80’s. Both dads are very pleased that their sons are now getting a chance to have their own experience as a part of the Falling Creek Camp community.

Come join us at the Falling Creek “Movies” in your area soon. I will be in Greenville, SC on Thursday, November 2 at 6pm. Stephen and Eliza Gray will be hosting the camp movies at their home. Marisa and the girls and I will be in Charlotte on Sunday, November 5 at 4pm at the O’Brien’s home. At literally the same day and time, Chris will be traveling to New York City on that Sunday, November 5 to show movies at the Brumback’s home at 3:30pm. Then he will be in Greenwich, CT on Monday, November 6 at 6:30pm at The Saer’s home.

We are also excited about several opportunities to catch up with FCC staff and have the opportunity to meet new folks. Chris will be catching up with FCC staff while in New York. He and Phil will be on the NC State Campus on Wednesday, November 8 at 7pm in Carmichael Gym, Room 2036 to meet potential new summer 2007 staff. They will both travel to Winthrop University on Thursday, November 9 to meet new staff at an event on campus at 12:30pm. If you are interested in being a part of the FCC Community this summer and want to catch up with Chris and Phil, please contact them by calling 828-692-0262 or send them an e-mail.

We are looking forward to seeing you on the road!

Front row:(l to r) Henry, Yates Pharr; Back Row: (l to r) Charlie & Nan Shaefer, Mark Shaefer, Grier, Fred Sims, Franklin and Daniel.

A large group of families interested in learning more about Falling Creek came to Alex and Katie Howard’s home last night for the Augusta, GA camp “movies”. A big thanks goes to Daniel, Bailey and Charles who were a big help to their parents in graciously hosting the show. Current campers and alumni came to reunite and join the new families in seeing the brand new 2007 camp DVD. We were excited to see alumni Fred Sims. Fred was an FCC camper in the 70’s and brought his son Franklin who has been going to Falling Creek for two years.

Mark Shaefer, a Catawba Tribe counselor and Sailing Instructor this past summer came to share his experiences with the boys and their parents. Mark recently graduated from Mercer University and grew up Augusta. He is happy to report serious talks with three top notch pharmaceutical companies as he interviews for a sales position with one of them. We are also pleased that Charlie and Nan Shaefer, Mark’s parents, came to enthusiastically offer their support for Falling Creek.

I will be heading to Robert Adams home tonight in Columbia, SC for the Falling Creek “movies” to be shown at 6:30pm. Come see us! – Yates

We want to also thank the large group of new families who joined us last night to not just learn more about camp from the new DVD, but to visit with these FCC families, staff, campers and alumni who filled them in on what it’s like to be a part of the Falling Creek Community. Charlie was there to sign autographs for his performance in this years new DVD. Thanks to you all and we hope you will take advantage of being so close to and come visit us at camp, especially as the leaves will reach their peak colors in the next two weeks.

Birmingham Movie Showing

I had the pleasure of meeting a number of new families last night at the Cole’s home where they hosted the Birmingham FCC “movies”. Joining me was Dusty Davis and his youngest son Chase who attended Main camp this past summer. Chase’s older brother Cole had school obligations last night, but both will be at Main Camp in 2007. Dusty was on Falling Creek’s staff in the mid 80’s when I was a camper and CIT. Dusty also served on staff for about 2 weeks this past summer and plans to do the same in 2007. Jim Williams, an alumni of Falling Creek, brought his son young Jim to learn about camp. Joining them were current campers Will, James Cole, and Walker, all of whom plan to be a part of the 2007 summer. Ford, whose father Crawford and uncle Proctor were both campers, also came to learn about Falling Creek. They all enjoyed watching the brand new 2007 DVD which has approximately 90 percent new material. Once we receive the copies of the DVD’s, we will be sending these out to all families who have attended the camp “movies” thus far.

Due to conflicting schedules, we are postponing the Montgomery movies tonight. We hope to post the new date soon on the camp website.

Please plan to come see us when we visit your area for the camp movies. It will not only be a great time to reunite with your camp friends, but the new families who have come to learn about Falling Creek can hear from you or your friends what it’s actually like to go to FCC.

I’m looking forward to seeing all of you in Asheville, NC, Augusta, GA and Columbia, SC next week. Have a great weekend.

The boys were excited to be a part of the big drawing for the Eli Manning autographed 2007 Jersey. All Falling Creek 2007 campers who had enrolled by October 15 had their names placed in a hat for the drawing. Eli, who grew up in New Orleans and went to Falling Creek in the early 90’s, was very gracious to sign a jersey for one of the boys to win. Knox performed the honors and drew Clay from Louisville, KY’s name as the official winner of the Eli Manning autographed 2007 Jersey.
