From May 12-19th, the volunteer based Dixie Division of the American Canoe Association will hold its 13th annual Dixie National Paddling School at Falling Creek Camp. Top ACA Instructor Trainers from across the country come to western North Carolina to teach instructor level courses in canoe, kayak, and rescue. From flatwater courses to whitewater, the Dixie National Paddling School meets the regional needs of camps, liveries, and a wide range of outdoor organizations in regards to providing them with ACA Instructor Certification opportunities. The money that is raised from the Dixie National Paddling School is then donated by the membership of the seven state Dixie Division to various paddling and water conservation organizations at it’s annual meeting each Fall. Over the past decade, the Dixie Division has given tens of thousands of dollars to numerous paddling and conservation organizations!

Climbing the Wall at Falling Creek Camp

Climbing the Wall at Falling Creek Camp’s Open House

This past weekend, the weather cooperated and Falling Creek hosted an enjoyable Open House. Families from Raleigh, Nashville, Columbia, Charlotte, and Atlanta (just to name a few!) took the opportunity to take a tour of camp, look into the cabins, see the activities, meet several of the summer staff, and ask directors any and all questions they had about a summer camp experience at Falling Creek.

The Open House ran from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday, April 8th and from 12 to 4 pm on Sunday, April 9th.
